Ing's Farm
Here's a picture of my estate partially built in 1948 along with the modern road map, satelite photo and the 1894 map. My house is there in the 1948 picture and we must assume the paper was left by the original builders.
The 1948 picture is actually very interesting, as it shows a stream still running through the park (the bit running from top to bottom that isn't straight like a road. You can see the stream extending out into what is still farmland but was shortly to be covered with houses. The stream, which is now underground, flows down under the Lily Park, I can only assume at this point it actually had a pond and water lilies.
In the middle is "Ings Farm" which is what that estate is now called. Its position puts it on the open space in front of the chippy.
Another observation is that even over the 100 years the field boundaries rarely change. The field boundaries just outside what is my estate shown on the 1894 map are still there at the edge of the rugby club on the current day shot. There's still a ditch at that point. I never really knew why until now. [detail]
In these modern days of satelite imaging it is not surprising that the street map is very close to the modern photo but more impressive is the accuracy of the 1854 ordnance survey map that was drawn based on ground surveying.
